    Bag-of-Features Image Indexing and Classification in Microsoft SQL Server Relational Database

    Efficient image retrieval by fuzzy rules from boosting and metaheuristic

    Fast content-based image retrieval is still a challenge for computer systems. We present a novel method aimed at classifying images by fuzzy rules and local image features. The fuzzy rule base is generated in the first stage by a boosting procedure. Boosting meta-learning is used to find the most representative local features. We briefly explore the utilization of metaheuristic algorithms for the various tasks of fuzzy systems optimization. We also provide a comprehensive description of the current best-performing DISH algorithm, which represents a powerful version of the differential evolution algorithm with effective embedded mechanisms for stronger exploration and preservation of the population diversity, designed for higher dimensional and complex optimization tasks. The algorithm is used to fine-tune the fuzzy rule base. The fuzzy rules can also be used to create a database index to retrieve images similar to the query image fast. The proposed approach is tested on a state-of-the-art image dataset and compared with the bag-of-features image representation model combined with the Support Vector Machine classification.     Spatial Keypoint Representation for Visual Object Retrieval

    Abstract. This paper presents a concept of an object pre-classification method based on image keypoints generated by the SURF algorithm. For this purpose, the method uses keypoints histograms for image serialization and next histograms tree representation to speed-up the comparison process. Presented method generates histograms for each image based on localization of generated keypoints. Each histogram contains 72 values computed from keypoints that correspond to sectors that slice the entire image. Sectors divide image in radial direction form center points of objects that are the subject of classification. Generated histograms allow to store information of the object shape and also allow to compare shapes efficiently by determining the deviation between histograms. Moreover, a tree structure generated from a set of image histograms allows to further speed up process of image comparison. In this approach each histogram is added to a tree as a branch. The sub tree is created in a reverse order. The last element of the lowest level stores the entire histogram. Each next upper element is a simplified version of its child. This approach allows to group histograms by their parent node and reduce the number of node comparisons. In case of not matched element, its entire subtree is omitted. The final result is a set of similar images that could be processed by more complex methods

    A novel method for invariant image reconstruction

    In this paper we propose a novel method for invariant image reconstruction with the properly selected degree of symmetry. We make use of Zernike radial moments to represent an image due to their invariance properties to isometry transformations and the ability to uniquely represent the salient features of the image. The regularized ridge regression estimation strategy under symmetry constraints for estimating Zernike moments is proposed. This extended regularization problem allows us to enforces the bilateral symmetry in the reconstructed object. This is achieved by the proper choice of two regularization parameters controlling the level of reconstruction accuracy and the acceptable degree of symmetry. As a byproduct of our studies we propose an algorithm for estimating an angle of the symmetry axis which in turn is used to determine the possible asymmetry present in the image. The proposed image recovery under the symmetry constraints model is tested in a number of experiments involving image reconstruction and symmetry estimation

    The relationship between fatty acid compositions and thermal stability of extra virgin olive oils

    Background: Fatty acids are one of the most important compounds in edible oils. Further, the stability of oils depends on the composition of fatty acids. So, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of fatty acid composition on the oxidative stability of extra virgin olive oils during the heating process.\ud Methods: In total, eight samples of extra virgin olive oil were studied. To evaluate their thermal stability, the oils were heated at 120 ° C for 4 h and sampling was carried out in 2-hour intervals. Then, fatty acid composition, peroxide value, anisidine value and totox value were evaluated according to Iranian national standards.\ud Results: Results showed a significantly direct correlation between Palmitoleic acid and Totox index in the second (r=0.786) and fourth hours (r=0.762), and between linoleic and Totox index in the second (r=0.643) and fourth hours (r=0.786). However, there was a significantly inverse relationship between oleic acid and Totox index in the fourth hour \ud (r=-0.833).\ud Conclusion: Result indicated that linoleic and Palmitoleic acids had a reducing effect on thermal stability of extra virgin olive oil after the second hour. But, Oleic acid caused a positive effect on thermal stability after the fourth hour. Thus, it is concluded that unsaturated fatty acids especially oleic acid affect the thermal stability at final hours
